Developing Methods for Reinterpreting the Past through Editing and Re-experiencing Spatiotemporal Archives of Virtual Environments
By recording experiences in virtual environments and later editing them or re-experiencing them from other perspectives, can we change the meaning given to past events? This is the technical predecessor of the “reinterpretation of the past” in my JST PRESTO project.

いまJSTさきがけで取り組んでいる「過去の再解釈」には、技術的な前身があります。この科研費 若手研究がそれです。
アイデアはシンプルです。メタバースでの体験を、空間ごと・時間ごと丸ごと記録しておく。そして後日、その記録を編集したり、別の視点から追体験したりできるようにする。すると、当時は気づかなかった意味が見えてきたり、つらかった出来事を違う角度から捉え直せたりするのではないか——バーチャル環境を「編集できる過去のアーカイブ」として使い、過去の再解釈を支える手法を開発しています。
あわせて、東京大学情報学環のスタートアップファンドで「エスノグラフィーを支援するAI基盤」の構築も始めました。インタビューやフィールドノートの質的分析は、豊かだけれど途方もなく時間のかかる営みです。その厚みを損なわずに、AIが研究者の相棒になれるか。質的研究者としての自分自身が、最初のユーザーです。
